32 days

I did it. 30days with no sugar. Well maybe that's not entirely true. Maybe more like 30 days with only a few slip ups.

Like the large meringue, fuck I love meringues, I had on day 26. Or the two teaspoons of jam I had on croissants on day 16. There's also the slight addiction to 'smoosh balls' (while they're 'whole' food with no refined sugar - they still pack a sugar punch).

I think that's pretty fucking decent though. I'm going to keep going too. Trying my best to eat well and keeping well.

I'm still going to avoid dairy as much as possible and I might try to reduce all the bread I eat - that's gotten a little out of hand!

I may also try to list the foods I eat too (as you can see by my blog I got bored of it halfway in). I'm going to re-read books for motivation, watch films and follow other blogs.

This feels good, it feels right.

I'm thinking the next 30 days might have to be yoga everyday...

Eats 9.03.17

God damn it. I had KFC again. I was starving, on autopilot and knew there wouldn't be much of an opportunity to make something at home. God I need to be more organised.

Dinner was a nice chorizo casserole type thing that Captain Romance whipped up.

Breakfast: oats with berries
Lunch: KFC (two pieces of chicken and chips)
Dinner: chorizos with peppers, green beans and spinach in chicken stock.

Snacks:
Marmite sandwich
3 carrots
3 bliss balls (16g sugar - justify this as it's not the white stuff)

Drinks:
2L water

Eats 8.03.17

Today I was at the hospital with Baby H and decided to buy some food from wishbone, you know Sony don't drive home past KFC! $25.30 later! A sandwich, water, paleo bites and a fruit salad. It's so understandable why so many people eat fast food.

Ever since my first pregnancy I lamented the fact there is no 'healthy' drive through option. Jesus I'd probably spend even more at wishbone if they had drive through. I'm getting seriously tempted to write up a business plan for a healthy drive through!

Breakfast: oats with berries
Lunch: salmon, egg and spinach sandwich, paleo chocolate bites (17g sugar - probably the dark chocolate)
Dinner: omelette with wholemeal couscous, vegetables and ham

Snacks:
Marmite sandwich
Two carrots
Nectarine

Drinks:
2L water

What $25.30 looks like!

KFC is becoming a way too regular occurrence. While the sugar is low the fat and general unhealthiness is high.

I managed to make dinner tonight. The first time I've cooked in forever! It was Turkish wonder chicken by Annabel Langbein: https://www.wearewhatweeat.co.nz/recipe/turkish-wonder-chicken. It wasn't too bad, except for the fact it was overcooked, slightly burnt and dried out. Still it was edible and I was stoked to have made dinner.

Breakfast: oats and berries
Lunch: marmite sandwich, 2 Carrots
Dinner: chicken breast, potatoes, courgette, goat feta, wholemeal cous cous

Snacks:
KFC - Two pieces chicken and chips
2 nectarines
Ceres organics nori snack

Drinks:
2L water

Day 11

Shit. So I really dropped the ball with the food diary.

Full disclosure- I had a teeny tiny piece of cake on Saturday (day 9) at a 4 year olds birthday party. Still felt a bit of sugar lethargy afterwards, which I was a little surprised by given how little I had. I placated the rest of my hunger with cherry tomatoes, cucumber sticks and carrots sticks.

Other than that little taster, it's all been pretty boring. Maybe a little overeating but with things like carrots and sandwiches. Yes, instead of reaching for a biscuit I'm reaching for a marmite sandwich!

The last few days have seen a few takeaways (KFC, McDs, fish & chips). So while I'm not exactly on a diet, those aren't great foods!

Another food I'm unfortunately eliminating at the moment is legumes aka peanut butter. It's something I'm trying to hopefully improve Baby H's jaundice. A bit sad about this as i was  really enjoying peanut butter!

Yesterday I was so tired that all I wanted was sugar BUT I didn't give in.

I've found and amazing snack option - seaweed. Ceres organics make a snack pack of nori and its so tasty!

Dinner: corn wrap with salad and chicken

Snacks:
2 bier sticks
6 pack chicken nuggets
10 pack chicken bites

Lunch: bacon, chicken and mozzarella tortellini with basil pesto (two servings)
Dinner: gourmet sausages in bread with small amount of tomato sauce

Eats - 1/03/17

Breakfast and lunch got flipped today  due to what was easier to eat one handed (while holding baby).

Having KFC felt naughty today! I'm not exactly dieting - just attempting to eat well and avoid dairy/sugar. But yeah, it still felt a bit like guiltily eating something I shouldn't!

Breakfast: marmite sandwich, 1 carrot
Lunch: oats with frozen berries
Dinner: pulled pork, 2 garlic rolls and green salad

Snacks:
Banana
2 Carrots
Popcorn
KFC chicken and chips
1 jellybean (thanks to my beautiful son sharing - it was insanely sweet!!)

Drinks
3L water

Snacks:
Marmite sandwich
2 carrots
4 parbaked garlic rolls

3L water

The plan...

So I was thinking today what is my plan... how long am I going to avoid the sweet stuff?

The goal is to ease Baby H's gassy tummy (& mine) so I've decided on 30 days. March 25th.

30 days avoiding biscuits, chocolate, Coke Zero, cake - all the sugary stuff I LOVE. The dairy free me will be ongoing I think. I definitely feel better without it.

I'm going to be easy on myself with sugar in food such as marmite and dressings (where sugar is less than 1gram).

Additionally I'm also going to eat foods with dextrose (as it doesn't contain fructose), as long as the overall sugar is less than a teaspoon (approx 4grams).

(Great blog piece explaining using dextrose: https://eveschaub.com/tag/david-gillespie/)

Eats - 26/02/17

Rubbish nights sleep. Well I think it was. Everything is so hazy. Baby H prefers to sleep on me so that's what happens, during the day and night. Fingers crossed for a better sleep tonight.

Today I'm missing Coke Zero. Could really do with a can of that. Maybe it's time to re-introduce coffee into my diet?!

Breakfast: dairy free scrambled eggs, homemade bacon, piece of toast, mini piklets with peanut butter
Lunch: boiled egg, peanut butter sandwich, handful of grapes
Dinner: BBQ pork with green salad

Snacks
3 carrots
Crackers and hummus
1x nectarine
Peanut butter sandwich

Drinks
1.5L water
1L soda water

Peanut butter pikelets. Yummy!

Eats - 25/02/2017

Snacktastic. Day 2 sugar free saw me reaching for a lot of snacks. I was so hungry today. Found an interesting pork snack at the supermarket - Mr Porky crackles. It had added dextrose, however the overall sugar content was super low (less than 1gram).

Overall mood: lethargic and tired (doesn't help I'm feeding a 5week old every few hours!)

Breakfast: 6 (small) diary free pancakes with 1.5tsp maple syrup
Lunch: slice of leftover pizza, peanut butter sandwich
Dinner: gluten free crumbed fish with salad (2 tsp dressing, minimal sugar added)

Snacks
4 carrots
4x Crackers with hummus
Pork crackles
10x Grapes
4 slices of salami
7 crackers with pate
2 bier sticks

Drinks
Glass of Chardonnay
1.5L water
Glass of Pinot Noir

Sugar fiend

For over a year now I have been saying I need to reduce my sugar intake. Again.

But there's always an excuse not to.

In 2016 it was pregnancy cravings. And in the almost 3 months of 2017 it's 'I'm breastfeeding' and sleep deprivation.

But here's the thing. I feel gross. I have a lot of gas and my baby is suffering from uncomfortable gas too. The unhealthiness of my diet is adding to the tiredness of being woken by my baby. I'm sick of reaching for the closest biscuit or block of chocolate - why we have so much crap in the house I don't know why!

This weekend I'm meal planning and snack prepping. I'm going to go diary free and limit my sugar.

Wish me luck!
